Wisdom teeth often fail to erupt properly, causing severe pain and discomfort in the back of the mouth. Our experienced dental team can remove them with a simple procedure to ensure that they don’t cause any pain or restrucuring of your teeth.
Wisdom teeth are a specific set of molars in the very back of your mouth. They usually attempt to erupt in the late teens or early twenties, but often fail to erupt due to lack of room in the jaw. They can also be affected by a poor angle of entry. When they do fail to erupt (also called “being impacted”), they must be removed, or they will cause gum tenderness, swelling, and pain. Wisdom teeth that are partially erupted tend to be very difficult to clean which causes an increased chance of tooth decay, infections, and gum disease.
They are typically removed once they start attempting to erupt to avoid all of these issues. The earlier the removal, the easier it is due to the bone around the teeth not being as dense as later in life.
Wisdom teeth extraction requires a local anesthetic. After the extraction, you’ll need to take some time to allow your mouth to heal. This means only eating specific, soft foods for a few days. Our dentist will discuss details for your specific situation before and after your procedure.
